Breaking into the Northeast
By the 1980s, JCPenney had solidly expanded throughout much of the country, including the mid-Atlantic. The Galleria store was one of their first entries into the Northeast region. After Sears discontinued its catalog business in 1993, JCPenney became the largest catalog retailer in the country.
